1. Why is a good night's sleep so important? Back to Top
The purpose of a good night's sleep is to replenish and restore the body in preparation for the next day. Achieving a sound, deep sleep on a nightly basis is critical for the repair and maintenance of the mind and body.

2. Why is natural sleep so important to good health? Back to Top
There is nothing that can do more for your overall health than restful, good night's sleep. Studies show that the lack of sleep or disrupted sleep contributes to a host of health issues such as obesity, depression, hypertension, and more.

3. What risks does snoring present besides disturbing your spouse? Back to Top
Disturbing your spouse is only a minor inconvenience compared with the health risks associated with snoring. The heavy and sometimes erratic breathing associated with snoring also wakes you periodically during the course of the night which inhibits the ability to achieve deep, REM sleep. In addition, these lapses in breathing strain your heart and can put you at risk. Sleep apnea is a serious condition that involves frequent breathing lapses that, when not treated, pose a deadly health risk.

4. How does the sleep program work? Back to Top
Your doctor will prescribe a device that is used nightly for 5 - 10 minutes to strengthen the muscles in the throat and larynx which create the breathing issue associated with snoring. The device does not involve invasive surgery or require you to wear any devices while you sleep. This solution involves breathing into a mouthpiece each night for up to 10 minutes and can easily become part of your evening routine in addition to brushing, flossing and gargling with mouthwash.

One caveat is that your doctor may also prescribe a natural sleep aid in addition to the device to promote better sleep. These sleep aids are natural products and do not contain narcotics like most over-the-counter sleeping aids.

As with any treatment, it will be important to keep in contact with your doctor regarding your condition. If you find that snoring does not subside, you may need to participate in a sleep analysis session that can result in the use of a breathing machine to alleviate your snoring.
