Treating syndrome X does not involve drugs. The best way to reverse the condition is with diet and exercise. Generally patients are encouraged to reduce their body weight to within 20% of the "ideal" body weight calculated for age and height. The recommended diet for this purpose is a low calorie, low-cholesterol diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables, and fiber. Patients are also encouraged to incorporate at least 20 minutes of aerobic exercise into their daily routine.
