1. What is laser hair removal? Back to Top
Laser hair removal is a safe and effective long-term solution for dealing with unwanted hair. Lasers and light based devices work by emitting a specialized light that is passed through the skin and preferentially absorbed by its target, be it an unwanted blood vessel, birthmark, tattoo, or in this case, hair.
2. What are the benefits? Back to Top
With laser hair removal, you can say good-buy to shaving, waxing and those messy depilatories.
3. How soon can I see results? Back to Top
Improvement can be seen immediately, although several treatments are required to permanently reduce hair, since hair grows in cycles and the hair follicles can only be treated during the active phase.
4. What is the treatment like? Back to Top
Patients compare the treatment sensation to the snapping of a rubber band. Your physician will advise you on the best way to perform the procedure.
You should avoid sun exposure prior to and immediately after the treatment. During the consultation, you will be given details covering pre and post treatment.
5. Who is the best candidate for treatments? Back to Top
Anyone who wants to permanently reduce hair growth on the body - from underarms, legs and bikini area for women, to backs, necks, chests and even jaw lines for men.
6. What is "skin type" and why is it important? Back to Top
Skin type determined by three factors -- genetic disposition, your reaction to sun exposure and your tanning habits. Skin type is then categorized on a scale of 1-6, where 6 is the darkest in tone and tolerate extensive sun exposure, and 1 is the fairest with little tolerance to sun exposure.
Skin type 1 - Extremely fair skin, always burns, never tans.
Skin type 2 - Fair skin, always burns, sometimes tans
Skin type 3 - Medium skin, sometimes burns, always tans
Skin type 4 - Olive skin, rarely burns, always tans
Skin type 5 - Moderately pigmented brown skin, never burns, always tans
Skin type 6 - Markedly pigmented black skin, never burns, always tans
For skin types 5 and 6, specialized equipment is required so when you request a referral, be sure to indicate your skin type.
